Construction of a Pilot Fish Hatchery
- Construction and operation of a pilot fish hatchery to produce monosex tilapia
- Hatchery to be operated by fish farmers in community
- Funding for construction and 1st year of operation ~$10K and
- Construction of an additional 2 hatcheries in other communities depending on results and available funding
Supporting Farmers through the Drought
- Provision of a solar pump for the community fishers of Lunza to help them through the drought. This is a consideration for other communities in the area
Continued Training and Support of Fish Farmers
- Training and support of 20 new fish farmers annually for 5 years with funding for fry, feed and technical and management training for 1 production cycle i.e. 8 months ~$10K with consideration of additional farmers depending on available funding
Site visits and On the Group Support from Yukon
- Arrangements for funding supporters to visit the project – could be organized by Hussein
Research and Development
- Studies of options for more affordable high protein pelleted feeds and alternative sources of high protein feeds
- Possible academic/ student to conduct socio-economic impacts and/or technical support
- Development and delivery of additional curriculum around business development, marketing and financial management
